Default Re-numbering Photo Files

Let say you have several folders of photos and you move some from several other folders and put them into a new folder. These files will come in their own tag numbers. How do you give new numbers in proper sequence in a new folder? Is there an automatic function within Windows? Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

If they were taken with the same camera, they will automatically be in sequence. If not, you can sort by modified date. And if you don't want to do any of that, perl is your friend

These pictures were not taken by the same camera but from different sources. The subject is the same and as such I would like the files to be in running orders in a new folder. I am not familiar with PERL, I know it is a language. Is there any program that can automatically change the file numbers and yet create proper sequence. Again, thanks for your prompt reply.

MUSTANGPC this link will be helpful.

It can be done within windows..........
Make sure they are in one folder, then
Just right click each photo (jpeg) in thumbnail view, and rename it to the sequence you desire then do a auto arrange and you should be fine.

He was asking if there is an automatic way to do this - and you're talking about a manual method. Given a folder of 2000 images, that's not really an option...

I understand that, this was the reason for the attached link as well.

JEC252, do you have anything to add positive? Plus he did not say he had a folder of 2000. I suggested a basis to work off of, then the link was a forum of discussion based on the same issue. They had some good ideas there as well.
